GOLF
What
should a golfer concentrate on when
conducting his or her sport specific
training and conditioning program?
According to Perceptual and Motor Skills.
1998 Jun, 86(3 Pt 1): 811-5 a golfer’s club
head speed, flexibility and general fitness
level improved after a golf conditioning
program. The Journal of Strength and
Conditioning Research: Vol. 20, No. 1,
pp. 62–72 also supports increased club head
speed during the
golf swing as a result of a
golf-conditioning program. This same
research article noted that putting accuracy
was not compromised as a result of a
conditioning program.
Dr. Lawrence Lampert recommends adding
vision training for golfers who desire a
real competitive edge.
The components of a
complete golf conditioning strategy
include
flexibility training complemented by
power development for the upper and lower
body. Additionally,
core training must be an integral
component of a golf-conditioning program.
An
ultimate golf fitness program will add
distance to your drives, allow you to hit
more fairways consistently, and build a
consistently repeatable golf swing for 18
holes.
Athletic Training & Conditioning, Inc.
recommends utilizing
exercise ball routines and
medicine ball routines to assist the
serious tennis player in stabilizing their
core and
abs. (Click

be efficiently transferred during the
training of athletic movements such as the
golf swing.
